Sargent WIP

Let me tell you: doing master studies while listening to "It's Quiet Uptown" on repeat is an excellent way to get your mind off an elimination game.

Kind of.

Reference was John Singer Sargent's Louise Burckhardt.

More Color Studies

Two more color studies, this time for Peter Pan and Lady and the Tramp. Both in the 20-30 minute range - I tried limiting myself more after spending nearly an hour the other day on the Alice study.

I adore the Pan shot - everything about it screams Mary Blair, from the shapes to the unique colors.

Also worth noting: while browsing LatT screen caps, I learned La Bella Notte ends with a shot of undies. Well played, Disney.

Resuming Disney Color Studies

I'm trying to get back into the groove of these color studies, as I haven't done one in months. I cheated and went longer than the 30 minute timer; it was closer to 50 minutes on this.

Alice In Wonderland has some stunning backgrounds… and then many shots with literally a color as the background. It's actually pretty well balanced: gorgeous shots followed by "nothingness." You can really tell creative muscles were used to create the zany world of Wonderland within a reasonable budget.

I especially love the sequences where Alice grows and shrinks. Those scenes are interwoven throughout the movie, and the above frame is from before she grows to the size of a house. Namely, the White Rabbit's house. (How adorable is it he has bunny ears on everything? Or a framed picture of carrots? D'awhhh.)

Disney Color Studies Part 2

Here are a few more Disney color studies, all in the 30-40 minute range. These are a lot of fun, but also challenging. If you ever want to feel intimidated look at the lush nature backgrounds in Bambi, or the sharp design aesthetic of Cinderella

From top to bottom: Fantasia, Dumbo, Bambi, Cinderella, The Three Caballeros

Disney Color Studies Part I

Here are some color studies I did from Snow White and Pinocchio, 30 and 40 minutes respectively. It's a lot of fun - and a lot of pressure - trying to get everything down in such a narrow span of time.

I'm planning to do one or two of these per day as warm ups, so we'll see how long it takes until I get to Frozen… and how much has changed from now.

SkADaMo Day 7

Some color studies from Disney's Peter Pan. Poor London is all dark and gloomy as opposed to Neverland. Oh, wait. It's dark and gloomy opposed to anything, I guess.

All three were in the 30-45 minute range. Technically they aren't sketches, but hey. I'm counting them for SkADaMo.
