Gallery Show WIP (Part II)

I wound up starting a last minute traditional piece for our upcoming gallery show, because that's what rainy Sundays are for. And because I'm nothing if not a procrastinator.

Inspired by the Doctor Who pinball game released in 1992 by Midway/Bally, but honestly? I'll take any excuse to draw Tom Baker.

I'm so excited to see the rest of the show. There are nothing but insanely talented, creative people contributing, and I'm honored to be among them. The opening is September 3rd, after which I'll post the full images of my pieces.

Watercolor Doodles

I found an old tin of watercolor pencils from my senior year of high school, and I forgot how frustrating much fun they are! Here are two random, resulting doodles.

Ink Texture

I made some watercolor stock images today, and wound up also playing with some new ink pens I bought last week. Very therapeutic!

Van Gogh Study

This is a color study based on Van Gogh's painting, Bedroom in Arles. Between my art history class and the emotional Vincent and the Doctor episode of Doctor Who, I found myself intrigued by his life and work. Done in colored pencil in a moleskin notebook.

Sword and the Stone

My sister asked me to help her with her Italian homework, and somehow that translated to drawing Merlin and Arthur on a poster for her. Not that I'm complaining; I love that movie.

Yes, this was done in crayon. I haven't used crayons since middle school, and it was awesome.

Sadly, my scanner has not been awesome as of late, thus I have to settle for a really bad scan. Sorry!

Contemplation

Been working like mad the past few weeks! Lots of animating, and a character design/perspective project (above).

This, and a few GenEd courses. I love love love my art history class- the teacher is phenomenal, and the art..!! I wish I could have taken more classes such as this!

Inspired by Lady Gaga's crazy outfits- though I think this is pretty tame compared to some of the things she goes out in. Her legs gave me a lot of trouble, and they still look wrong; I think the front one needs to be brighter, and they both need to be a bit shorter. My sister also pointed out that it looks like she's sniffing her armpit... oye! So much for a dancing pose, ahah. Other than that, this was a fun excuse to use my markers that have collected dust!

Long Pose

It's a depressing day: it was the last day of my life drawing class. I'll miss it a lot, I learned a ton.

This was done with vine charcoal in 3 hours.
