Willy Wonka Show

Today we set up for our annual art show at work, with this year's theme being Willy Wonka. It's one of our most successful licenses, and as such we dedicated our gallery space to pieces inspired by the film. It's a bit of a shocker that Gene Wilder passed away recently, so that makes the show all the more endearing.

I'm not the biggest Willy Wonka fan, so it took me a long while to get started. As in, the days leading up to the turn-in date. But in the end I did managed to complete a few pieces, one of which being pencil sketches of the main characters. It was a bit of a kamikaze endeavor, as I had no game plan and did one character at a time while watching the film. Thankfully they all lined up and nothing ended up too wonky!

I'm still not the biggest Wonka fan, but I do enjoy Wilder's take on the character. I also despise Grandpa Joe immensely. Oye.

Workiversary

Today was my 2 year workiversary! I could go on and on about how this place and these awesome folks have changed my life, but instead I'll just leave you with some emoji:

Halloween Party

You may be thinking, this would be the time to post some Inktober drawings! And you would be correct.

Alas.

I actually kept up for a while on my instagram account... I even did a theme: X-men! But sadly I fell off the wagon a bit amid car issues and the Cubs' playoff run. (Still not over either, I'm not gonna lie.)

In lieu of inked goodies, here are some designs I made for our company Halloween party taking place tomorrow!

Our party committee was in need of some imagery to be used as an email blast and flier, so I was more than happy to contribute some sugar skulls. These were a ton of fun to do, and helped brighten my spirits after such a rollercoaster month.

Illustrator Work Pt. V

This month's major deadline came and passed, so I threw together another fun Illustrator post! Eleven more after the jump.

Illustrator Work Pt. IV

Here's a super random sample of things I've done for work the past month or so. I'm really having a blast working in Illustrator, something I never ever thought I would be saying. I'm hoping to post more personal work soon, but first need to pay the bills!

Illustrator Work Pt. III

Here's a random collection of designs from August and September. Fall and Halloween were on my mind a lot... as was food apparently!

Illustrator Work Pt. II

Here are some more designs that have been keeping me busy as of late. I'm really enjoying working in Illustrator, something I never ever thought I would say.

Seven more under the jump.

Illustrator Work Pt. I

I recently was hired as a design apprentice at a lovely design boutique here in Chicago. I'm enjoying every minute of it, and am having a blast exploring Illustrator on a daily basis. Our client likes a wide array of illustrations, and so it's really fun the random things we can create. It's very liberating having such an open ended assignment!

Below are some of my favorites from the week:

Pug Story

Here's a small taste of the book I am illustrating. I'm working with a phenomenal author, and our goal is to have the book shipping out late September, with lots of potential options such as t-shirts and plush dolls. It's all very exciting!
