Inktober Day 4

A Chell doodle for today! I need to replay this game so badly.

Portal Inktober

I know this has been done a million times, but OH WELL.

This was a doodle I did as part of Inktober, and wound up adding gouache before scanning it in and coloring it. I really wasn't planning on taking it that far, but man do I love Chell/Portal/Valve/etc. So, no regrets.

The Rescue Pt. 1

I had a little free time this morning, and decided to use this as a warm up. Hopefully I can get around to doing more of this sequence (re: the beginning of The Rescue).... I love it so. It was so much fun, even if I don't have a consistent Chell design as of now.

Also, I thought it would be a fun future exercise to come up with radio designs, because if that's not the most pathetic, bland looking radio I don't know what is. Alas.

Chell

It's almost a year to the day that I first played Portal 2.

A dear friend recommended it to me some months prior, and so when I saw it at the library I nonchalantly checked it out. It's hard for me to delve in to new things - especially video games - so when I finally got around to playing I did not, in a million years, expect to get hooked. Even now, when bored/depressed/whatever I pop this game in and voila! All better.

To this day I thank my friend for not spoiling me, because when the end of The Escape rolled around I sat up practically yelling, "Wait, what's going on, what is happening, this isn't right, what is this, WHAT IS GOING ON?"

Yea. I love this game, if it isn't obvious.

(Also: three cheers for female protagonists - and antagonists at that. I know she's mute, and you hardly even see her, but come on. It's pretty rad the "main character" is female, let alone a competent, non eye-candy female.)

Bagels

I finished Blue Sky by the talented Waffles this past weekend, and my emotions are just all over the place.

And I'm rather intimated as I post this, as there are some lovely, talented, and utterly inspiring artists on Tumblr who draw the best fanart ever (I'm looking at you, NQH and baysalt, among many many others).

But I can't help doodle and draw hearts all over the likes of Chell and Wheatley, sue me. While Wheatley is absent in the above, I can't help love thinking of Chell making a bagel... It just makes me an emotional gooey mess.

Basically: follow all the people linked above, and go read Blue Sky. You'll find yourself smiling like a fool the entire time, I promise you.

Day Nineteen

"Okay, look. We both said a lot of things you're going to regret. But I think we can put our differences behind us. For Science. You monster."

"I was just reading books. So, I'm not a moron. Anyway. Just finished the last one. The hardest one. Machiavelli. Do not know what all the fuss was about. Understood it perfectly."

I had way too much fun thinking of books for him to read. The big one that's turned around is Aristotle's biography, of course.

Day Four

Kind of busy today, so only a quick terrible sketch.

I want to draw Chell more. She's rather awesome and compared to the 'bots (who are also awesome) she gets no love.

Basically, with this game there's no lack of awesome going around.

Day Three

Trying something a bit different.

GLaDOS always struck me as a sour, old, evil aunt with a crazy-modern fashion sense despite always talking about 'the good ol' days.'

One of these days I'll do something original, I swear.

Portal 2 Shenanigans

Last of the Portal 2 art I've done... I promise. Mild Portal 2 spoilers.

GLaDOS gets even. (That poor bird hanging around the lab will never have its eggs hatch.)

On a much more serious note: the news of Steve Jobs' passing is terribly sad. Granted, everyone knew it was coming- especially given him stepping down- but not nearly so soon. Then I think back to the video of his commencement speech at Stanford I watched a few months ago, and how the doctor who first diagnosed him had predicted he wouldn't last a few weeks let alone several years. Remarkable.

His ingenuity and drive for success was inspiring, and his vision of "simple and great" helped shape so much- from the computer I'm using to the industry I aspire to work in. He truly was the modern day Walt Disney, as Austin stated. There have been so many tweets, Facebook statuses, and blog posts about him and his legacy, and rightfully so. He'll be sorely missed.

More Portal 2 - SPOILERS!

Yea... more Portal 2 stuff. Be warned, there are blatant, blatant spoilers in this post. So... you've been warned. 

Re: the final cut scene. I can see GLaDOS taking a page out of Ratigan's book: "Goodbye! So long! Farewell! Arrivederci!" Etc, etc, etc. Then, after making some off putting comment under her breath, she'd retreat back into the lab, dead-bolting the door with umpteen different locks.

I'm sure going through the stages of depression while floating in space for eternity, he'd sit in a huff in the anger stage for quite a while...

Poor dude. 

Oh to have random encounters between these two, post-Chell's departure. Wheatly would totally be a bit of a snot, making random bird calls when it's least expected. This of course would scare the pants right off GLaDOS. (Can you blame her?)

Oh, and the bit where he's yelling about not being a moron? Heartbreaking.

Portal 2 Fangirling

I finished Portal 2 tonight! (I know, I know. I'm five months late to the party. Don't remind me.)

Oh, Valve. Such perfection! Amongst the overall amazingness of this game, I have to applaud the writing. Fantastic! I was dying of laughter the entire time. And I was utterly crushed with Wheatly's arc. Goodness.

So what did I do upon finishing the game? I jumped on the Let's-make-GLaDOS-and-Wheatly-human bandwagon. I apologize for nothing- I love them both dearly.

Speaking of video games- one month until Drake's Deception! Can't wait!
