Portal Inktober

I know this has been done a million times, but OH WELL.

This was a doodle I did as part of Inktober, and wound up adding gouache before scanning it in and coloring it. I really wasn't planning on taking it that far, but man do I love Chell/Portal/Valve/etc. So, no regrets.

Knight Princess

Growing up, three things stand out the most in my mind: wearing assorted leggings each and every day (the stirrup kind, not featured); fuzzy pink hair ties (from Limited Too, a girl's one stop shop for all things awesome); and Dragonite (my favorite Pokemon).

I've been using the same avatar for almost a year, so I figure I was overdue for a new one! Three cheers for Tom Baker scarves, booties, and ombre hair.

Summer's End

I heard on the radio recently that Labor Day is the "unofficial end of summer." I'll be honest, I could have done cartwheels on the spot - I'm so over summer. Chicago has had a record number of 90/100 degree days this year, and I am so ready for cooler temperatures, boots, jackets and scarves, colorful leaves, and pumpkin spice lattes (or pumpkin anything for that matter).

So long summer. It's been swell.

Arles

Digital re-painting of Van Gogh's Bedroom in Arles. Because I can. And I love this painting, for whatever reason.

Actually, I'm going to attempt to do an experimental animation... thing. Here's hoping it turns out, as I've been wanting to do it for months and finally made time today between work and my ethics paper.

It was a lot of fun to work on thus far! I liked trying to imitate the paintbrush strokes in Photoshop. And if it isn't obvious, I had a ton of fun painting wood.

Fashionista

Been inspired by a lot of posts over at Lookbook.nu as of late! Fall has the neatest color scheme in all the burnt colors. (Reference.)

Also, this may be my last post for a while. Or, at the very least they will be far less frequent. This until late November as I have lots to do with school, work, and my great-grandmother's health.

More Blair Flair

I found myself working on more of these last night and into this morning. They're quite stress-relieving!

I actually had plans for a few more, but family things came up today and that included spending a vast part of the day in the ER. Today was kind of an emotional train-wreck in that regard.

That said, I may very well have a few more of these girls coming along the pipeline, as I could use more stress relieving.

Mary Blair

Yesterday was Mary Blair's birthday - she would have been 100!

I remember when I was in my design fundamentals course, and I was looking up various artists for a paper and stumbled upon The Art and Flair of Mary Blair in the library. What a wonderful surprise - so much eye-candy!

I love how recognizable her style is.

Skyping Doodle

A quick doodle I did while Skyping with my sister. (Is Skyping a verb now?)

Inspired by the fact that I actually branched out and tried the Pumpkin Spice Latte Starbucks is so famous for. While Vanilla Lattes are still number one in my book, it was actually pretty good!

I was playing around with pastel colors, and wound up saturating it anyway. I'm a sucker for vibrant colors.

Also: I'm endlessly amused at the cup looking like cardboard... but the Skype call ended, and I kind of forgot about this.

Tumblr fun

Made these for a Tumblr challenge! The theme was First Meetings.

From top to bottom: Being Human (Mitchell and George), Torchwood (Gwen meets Torchwood), and Chuck (Chuck and Sarah). I cannot express how much I love how they shot Gwen's entrance to Torchwood. So pretty!

My family and I went to the Shedd Aquarium yesterday, and it was a blast. I haven't gotten around to scanning the few sketches I did, so in lieu of them here's a few random things I made a few weeks ago.

Doctor Who Tumblr Fun

Inbetween inking my 2D short and working in Maya, I've been playing around in Photoshop a bit. Above is what ensued!

But! I did get a lot of my 3D model of Debbra done- I finished her head, neck, body, and am 80% done with her arms. I'm also still stuck on the fact I willingly opened Maya on my break. (Amazing, I know!)

Lazy Bones

Above is a sketch I did for a contest with a theme, "Lazy bones."

I've been feeling really inspired as of late! I went with my family and saw Despicable Me today, and loved it. Great story, beautiful animation. I also bought these two Tangled books, because the illustrations inside are gorgeous and I can't wait for the Art of book.

Here's to a productive week off!

FiveTwelve

I was backing up my hard-drive yesterday, and I found a whole slew of folders from my freshman year with stuff I'd completely forgotten about! This is one of my favorites. It was for an image manipulation class, where we had to create a DVD cover celebrating an aspect of Chicago.

(Five Twelve is how many home runs Ernie Banks hit in his career - 21st on the all time list.)
